The Foundation of a Prosperous Kogi East

When we talk about the economic restoration of Kogi East, we must first address the health and intellect of our people. Roads, power grids, and markets are vital, but they are only as effective as the human beings who build, manage, and use them.

A district where families are impoverished by basic medical bills and where young minds are denied quality learning is a district holding back its own potential. As candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), my commitment is simple yet non-negotiable: Healthcare and Education are fundamental rights, not privileges.

Part I: Healthcare – Moving From Crisis Reaction to Quality Access

Across our nine Local Government Areas—from Ankpa to Dekina, Idah to Bassa, and down to Ibaji—access to reliable healthcare remains a daily challenge. Rural families often travel vast distances over poor roads just to access basic medical attention.

Our strategy for the Senate focuses on structural solutions that fix the system at the root:

1. Revitalizing Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs)

Primary Healthcare Centers are the first line of defense for rural communities. We will sponsor legislative interventions and collaborate with national and international health agencies to:

Renovate, equip, and staff at least one fully functional Primary Healthcare Center in every ward across Kogi East.
Ensure consistent supply chains for essential life-saving drugs and basic diagnostic tools so no clinic turns patients away empty-handed.

2. Expanding Health Insurance and Affordable Care

High out-of-pocket medical expenses pull families into poverty. We will work to extend the reach of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) schemes to cover informal workers, farmers, traders, and vulnerable households in Kogi East, ensuring that a simple diagnosis does not become a financial tragedy.

3. Mobile Clinics & Community Outreaches

To bridge the gap while permanent facilities are upgraded, we will establish continuous quarterly mobile medical outreaches. These will provide free screenings, surgeries, eye care, maternal health supplies, and medication directly to hard-to-reach riverine and rural areas.

Part II: Education – Equipping the Next Generation for Global Competitiveness

Education is the greatest equalizer. Through the Idris HK Foundation, we have spent years paying school fees and funding learning supplies for underprivileged children. However, individual philanthropy must now be amplified into sustainable legislative policy.

1. Educational Support Funds & Need-Based Scholarships

No qualified student in Kogi East should drop out of higher institutions due to tuition fees. We will establish a formal, transparent Kogi East Education Bursary Scheme targeting high-performing and financially disadvantaged tertiary students across Ankpa, Bassa, Dekina, Ibaji, Idah, Igalamela-Odolu, Ofu, Olamaboro, and Omala.

2. Upgrading Classroom Infrastructure & Teacher Welfare

A conducive learning environment inspires growth. Our legislative efforts will target federal constituency intervention funds toward rehabilitating dilapidated primary and secondary school classrooms, providing modern furniture, and establishing functional laboratories. Concurrently, we will advocate for enhanced continuous professional development for teachers.

3. ICT and Vocational Skills Training

The modern economy demands practical, digital, and technical skills. We plan to establish state-of-the-art Digital Literacy and Vocational Hubs in each federal constituency within Kogi East. These hubs will train young people in modern software skills, renewable energy technology, agriculture tech, and trade crafts, creating job creators rather than job seekers.
